Notts ACS Wild ‘n’ Out

So last semester we wanted to do something different and decided to host a Notts ACS Wild n Out special! It truly was a night full of banter and lyrical genius and we played some of the most popular games including Remix, Plead the Fifth, and the bonus game, Wildstyle. And let’s just say the last few games have pictures which speak for themselves…

Ofcourse, there were two teams (Freshers vs Returners) but there could only be ONE winner and the Freshers came out on top! Well done to them for bringing bags of enthusiasm and the hardest bars to the stage.

New year, new book | Best “New” African Poets 2015 Anthology

Hey readers,

There’s an exciting new book out called the Best “New” African Poets 2015 Anthology which is by Tendai R. Mwanaka (Editor) and Daniel da Purifacacao (Editor) with a contribution from one of our very own University of Nottingham students, Osita Kabba! The anthropology consists of 214 poems by 79 poets from over 23 African countries and the Diaspora, each delving into a huge variety of topics from corruption and exile to love.

You can purchase the book from Amazon or from the African Books Collective website here.

Please share and support the work of our fellow students and Happy New Year to you all!

The Great Debate Tour 2015 | Nottingham (UoN x NTU) edition

The Great Debate Tour came back to Nottingham and this year we collaborated with Nottingham Trent for an interesting night of debating! There were some really exciting topics ranging from education to “black music” to politics and voting patterns.

It was an incredible evening of discussion, banter and a touch of controversy and we hope you all took something from it. We’d like to say a huge thank you to The Great Debate team and panellists for coming down and hosting an amazing event with us.

Legacy – The Black History Month Showcase | #BLACKLIVESMATTER

Legacy, our black history month showcase, was a huge success! Raw talent graced the stage in the form of singers, spoken word artists and rappers as well as committee members performing poems in line with the theme – the #BLACKLIVESMATTER movement. Henry Stone then ended the night with three poetic pieces which blew the crowd away.

And our Twitter mentions were filled with lovely comments about the night…

We’d like to thank everyone who was involved and the amazing audience who attended as there would be no show without you guys. We will be releasing an Autumn semester round up video very soon but if you performed on the night and would like individual videos, get in touch with Lola, our Creative Director. Or for promotion of your creative work, skills or anything relevant you can contact us via this link.

Meet Your Buddy

Every year we link up freshers with higher year students who act as their support system and go-to person throughout the academic year. Whether you need help with your course or just want to know where to buy plantain, you’ll have a buddy to assist you the best they can.

Honey, our welfare officer deals with the buddy system so if you have any questions please get in touch with her on Twitter or on 07931888603. There will be a ‘How well do you know your buddy’ event next semester to test you and your buddy and see who’s bonded the most so get involved (only members can participate)!

Notts ACS Sports Tour | Croatia 2016

Hi everyone!

Every year Notts ACS plan a sports trip with I Love Tour to play sports, ofcourse, as we run netball, football and basketball throughout the year. Last year we were in Salou, Spain and had the most amazing time! Not only did we get to play against other universities and meet new people, but we also got the chance to soak up some sun and relax during the Easter holiday. This year we’ve decided on Croatia which should hopefully top last year’s experience! Whether you’re into sports or not you can still come along and support your favourite society!

To give you a little insight into what we got up to last year, here’s our recap video from Salou:

Now for the serious information… The absolute total cost of the trip is £294.95 (including booking fee, initial deposit and refundable damage deposit) and this covers everything including accommodation, ILOVETOUR t-shirt, buffet breakfast, exclusive entry to clubs & bars, return coach from university and much more. There’s a lot in store for you guys so it’s worth every penny.
