Your chance to be on TV! | Back In Time for Brixton

Good evening everyone,

We’ve been contacted by a Casting Researcher at Wall to Wall Media (he makers of Who Do You Think You Are? and Long Lost Family) who would like to share the following opportunity with you all.

They are looking for a Caribbean family to explore Black British history and its cultural and social influence on British popular culture in a brand new BBC 2 show ‘Back in Time for Brixton’. One adventurous family will be fast-forwarded through 60 years of history, with no mobiles and roughly the same amount of money and possessions that their ancestors brought with them on arrival. Please see the flyer below for more information and please note, participants do not need to be Brixton residents..

The Autumn Semester finale | Boat Party – Masquerade Edition

To end what has been an amazing term, we gave you unlimited drinks, a lovely meal and sets from the two most popular DJs in town, DJ Mykz and DJ Reeepa. For those who did attend, I think we can say it ended the term quite perfectly. Everyone was dressed to impress and ready to have a good time and that’s exactly what we did! If you weren’t there you really did miss out but here are some pictures from the night so you can see how much we enjoyed…

Thank you for making this event the success that it was and we’re really excited to see you all in the New Year. Have a good one and please drink responsibly!

The Great Debate Tour 2015 | Nottingham (UoN x NTU) edition

The Great Debate Tour came back to Nottingham and this year we collaborated with Nottingham Trent for an interesting night of debating! There were some really exciting topics ranging from education to “black music” to politics and voting patterns.

It was an incredible evening of discussion, banter and a touch of controversy and we hope you all took something from it. We’d like to say a huge thank you to The Great Debate team and panellists for coming down and hosting an amazing event with us.

University essentials | What not to forget & tips

car boot

Hey Freshers! We hope you’re all very excited to move into Nottingham and meet tonnes of new people. As you’re writing your uni shopping lists and planning your massive trip to IKEA or wherever else, we thought we’d give you a little extra help. This is a very extensive list of what you need to buy/pack from bedding to important documents, it’s all there. Literally all of us on the committee used this list when preparing for university and it was incredibly useful. Argos, Wilko and IKEA also have their own university checklist, deals and some great themes and bedroom ideas. We’d recommend decorating your room and making it cosy because that’s where you’ll spend a lot of your time and you might even get a bit homesick!

The Notts ACS forget-me-not’s:

  • Mattress protector
  • Corkscrew/tin opener
  • Extension cable
  • Door stopper (so you can meet your flatmates on move-in day)
  • Hangers (you wont be given any)
  • Kitchen roll
  • Toilet brush
  • Washing up sponge
  • Medication (fresher’s flu is so real!)
  • Blanket
  • Laundry basket
  • Clothes drying rack

Lastly, a few tips for when you move in:

-Make sure you give your room, kitchen space and bathroom a good clean before you do ANYTHING

-For the self-catered lot, don’t bother buying a toaster, kettle, iron or rice cooker as you’ll probably be given one to share with your flatmates; check what will be provided and wait till you get there so you can split the cost of extra appliances

-Don’t take toooo much stuff with you especially if living on campus as you’ll have to move in and out each term

-Buy a double duvet not a single even if you have a single bed

-Earplugs may come in handy for noisy neighbours (and St Peter’s Court fire alarms!)

-To save space in your vehicle you can do your food shopping in Notts
Lidl – 1 Midland Way, NG7 3NY, ASDA – Hyson Green, NG7 5FP, etc are close-by for the self catered students

That’s all from us for now! Comment below if you have questions about anything related.
